If conservative measures fail to resolve your verruca(s), surgical removal may be recommended. Verruca Excision is a minor surgical procedure used to remove plantar warts.
The procedure involves the use of local anaesthetic to numb the area. The verruca is then excised (scraped away) using a curette. Depending on the size of the verruca, a small stitch may be used while the area heals.
Recovery can take between 1- 2 weeks, depending on the number and size of the verrucas. This will be discussed during your Initial Assessment.
Verrucas are warts that appear on the soles of the feet and are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). As the warts are confined to the epidermis (top layer of the skin) where there are no circulating immune cells, warts can evade a person’s immune system and persist – sometimes for months or years.
This method has a success rate of 65–85%, but it can cause scarring and recurrence in up to 30% of patients.
The fee includes the procedure, dressings for up to two weeks post-surgery and two follow-up appointments. Additional dressings can be purchased here.
