Retronychia is a type of ingrown nail where the toenail ingrows at the cuticle rather than at the sides of the nail plate. The nail plate grows backward into the nail bed, and can be very painful.

Conservative (non-surgical) treatments can be explored however, typically, the nail will need to be removed under local anaesthetic.

When phenol (the chemical to kill the nail-producing cells in the nail matrix) is not applied, the nail will grow back.

This procedure is suitable where the the ingrown nail/retronychia has been a short-term issue and will allow the nail to regrow naturally.

 

The surgery is performed under local anaesthetic and the entire nail plate (including additional regrowth under the cuticle, which causes the discomfort and repeat infections) is removed. The pros and cons of this will be discussed with you during your Initial Assessment. 

 

The price includes the surgery, dressings to cover you for one week post-procedure (dressing the toe/s every other day) and follow-up communication by text, WhatsApp or email for up to two weeks post-procedure.

The toe will typically be healed within a few days and normal activities can be resumed within one to two weeks (depending on the severity of the initial toenail problem).

If in-clinic follow-up appointments are required post-procedure, these will incur an additional fee. Additional dressings can be purchased online here. Further advice by email, text or WhatsApp beyond the first two weeks after the procedure can be arranged via the online booking system and must be paid for in advance.
